Recipe: Spring Sangria

Red wine sangria with lemons, organes, and limes.

I love Sangria, especially as it the weather begins to warm up; it’s not so hot out that I want a frozen drink, but its warm enough to want something cool and refreshing.  I’m partial to red wine anyway, but you could certainly make this with white wine too.

The best part of this recipe is that it’s easily adjustable and there’s nothing fancy about it!  A few years ago in Tampa, FL I had the best red wine sangria at a little restaurant called Colombia.  When I returned home, I immediately gave them a call to ask what was in it and began replicating and adjusting the recipe.

If you like more berry flavors, add some frozen berries.  If you like more citrus, add more orange slices.  Chopped apples or peaches would also be a great addition to this basic recipe.  Let me know what you add!

Red Wine Sangria

1 bottle dry red wine (chilled)
¾ cup brandy
2 tablespoons lemon juice
2 tablespoons orange juice
¾ cup water
Sliced lemon
Sliced orange

Simply add the ingredients together and stir.  If you prefer your sangria cooler, you can add ice cubes but I prefer not to water down my liquor!

NUTRITION INFORMATION: There ain’t much!  One glass is about 125 calories, basically all from alcohol with a little carbohydrate thrown in.
